Pride Pledge: Our commitment to rainbow

We are proud to announce that in April this year, we took our first steps toward taking the Pride Pledge, which is our commitment to being better allies to our rainbow communities.

Kindred Family Services: First steps toward taking the pledge

What is pride pledge?

Pride Pledge is a values-based commitment that organizations and individuals can take to demonstrate their dedication to the safety, visibility and inclusion of the rainbow members of their community and workforce.

Why is this important?

According to a 2018 government inquiry, rainbow people are estimated to make up 6% to 15% of our population, with this group being among the most marginalized groups in our society. 1 in 5 rainbow youths, for example, report having attempted suicide, and they are many times more likely to experience poverty, social exclusion, severe anxiety, depression, and other symptoms of mental distress throughout their lives.

“you are valued and accepted by us, and we will stand by you in your journey”.

These statistics won’t change unless it becomes possible for rainbow people to express themselves without risk of discrimination, exclusion, and violence. Taking the pledge is our way of reaching out to our local rainbow communities and saying “you are valued and accepted by us, and we will stand by you in your journey”.
